The 3rd
Mercu Buana International Conference on Communication Science (MICoCS)
Is an academic forum organized by the Faculty of Communication Science, Universitas Mercu Buana, Jakarta, Indonesia. As a biennial international conference, MICoCS is designed to facilitate scholarly exchange and critical reflection on key developments and challenges within the field of communication science. The third conference, to be held in 2026, adopts the theme “Emphasizing the Human Elements in the AI Era: Social Cohesion, Ethics, and Collaboration in Digital Communication,” which underscores the normative importance of maintaining human-centered perspectives amid the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence and digital communication technologies.
Entering the year 2026, societies across the globe are experiencing significant transformations in economic, social, and political spheres. These transformations are closely linked to the accelerated development of digital technologies and artificial intelligence, which have profoundly reshaped communication processes, institutional practices, and knowledge production.
Within the discipline of communication studies, such developments challenge the adequacy of classical theoretical frameworks and established analytical concepts, particularly in explaining phenomena associated with digital platforms, algorithmic mediation, and automated communication systems. Accordingly, communication scholarship is increasingly required to adapt conceptually and methodologically in order to remain relevant and analytically rigorous in the context of ongoing digital and AI-driven change.
